From the Arizona Republic:
A hiker was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after falling 60 feet in the Grand Canyon on Tuesday.
The 47-year-old Ohio man and his hiking companions were several hundred feet down the Grandview Trail when he lost his balance and fell over the edge, according to the National Parks Service.
The fall happened around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, shortly after the group started a multi-day hike.
A visitor at the Grandview Trailhead heard calls for help. Park Rangers responded and found the man lying injured on the trail.
A park helicopter lifted the man from the trail to a parking lot, where he was taken by ambulance to the South Rim helicopter base. He was then flown to the Flagstaff Medical Center.
When I visited GC a few months ago, the first thought that crossed my mind: “That would be one hell of a fall!”
The hiker must of had his angel near by. Thank God he survived the fall.
